Description of Trophies

Below is a list of Club Trophies and how to win one and why they are awarded


Ashford Wheelers Time Trial Trophies


Our Wednesday evening time trial series is creeping closer and runs from April 27th to August 24th 2011 and consists of 18 events, 17 over 10 miles and 1 over 20 miles.


The purpose of this document is to provide you, the Ashford Wheelers Club member, with detailed information of the trophies ‘up for grabs’ throughout the season.


Please see below for a list of the club trophies you can compete for during the 2011 season. The trophies are listed in three sections, season long competitions, nominated events & any event trophies.


Your eligibility to win a trophy is subject to your age. This is calculated at the 1st of January each year.


Juveniles : 12 - 15 years old.

Juniors : 16 – 17 years old.

Seniors : 18+ years old

Veterans : 40+ years old.


Ashford Wheelers also awards trophies to Juveniles, Juniors & Lady riders where applicable.


Season Long Competitions


The Geoffrey Knowles Rose Bowl


This trophy is won by the rider who has accrued the most number of points during the club evening 10 TT season. It is calculated using each rider’s 10 best performances of the season. Points are given each week with the fastest rider getting 10 points, the 2nd 9 points and so on.


The Mayes Cup – NEW Competition !


This is a handicap competition and is won by the rider who has accrued the most number of points during the club evening 10 TT season. It is calculated using each rider’s 10 best performances on a handicapped system. Please refer to the individual document on this competition to see how this is calculated.


Nominated Event Trophies


The Leon Bellamy Medal (Low Gear event) – Wednesday 27th April


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time in our club evening 10. However, the rider must ride the event with a gear not bigger than 66 inches. This event is typically ridden on a fixed wheel bike. Alternatively, if you wish to enter you can tape up your gear levers after determining which sprockets/chainring you can use. Please notify the timekeeper in advance so they can verify this.


The Hayward Cup – Sunday September 18th on the Q25/10 course (25 miles)


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time in the above event. Please note that this event is an Open event and must be entered at least 2 weeks in advance. You are also required to wear either club colours or a plain jersey.


The Glover Cup (25)Sunday September 18th on the Q25/10 course (25 miles)


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time on handicap. The handicap is calculated in advance by a member of the Ashford Wheelers committee.


The Glover Cup (30) – Sunday May 15th on the Q30/2 course (30 miles)


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time in the above event. Please note that this event is an Open event and must be entered at least 2 weeks in advance. You are also required to wear either club colours or a plain jersey.


The Silver Medal – Sunday May 15th on the Q30/2 course (30 miles)


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time on handicap. The handicap is calculated in advance by a member of the Ashford Wheelers committee.


The Austen Cup – Sunday July 24th on the Q50/11 course (50 miles)


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time in the above event. Please note that this event is an Open event and must be entered at least 2 weeks in advance. You are also required to wear either club colours or a plain jersey.


The Hudson Cup – Sunday July 24th on the Q50/11 course (50 miles)


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time on handicap. The handicap is calculated in advance by a member of the Ashford Wheelers committee.


The Santer Cup – Sunday 2nd October on the QHC/11 (Hollingbourne - 0.8 miles)


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time in the above event. Please note that this event is an Open event and must be entered at least 2 weeks in advance. You are also required to wear either club colours or a plain jersey.


Any Event Trophies


The Pincrole Cup


Awarded to the rider with the fastest combined average speed over 25,50 & 100 miles on any course.


The Groves Challenge Trophy


Awarded to the rider with the fastest combined average speed over 10 & 25 miles on any Q course. It is calculated using the fastest 2 performances over each distance.


The Rose Callaghan Memorial Trophy (Handicap Calculated)


Awarded to the rider with the fastest combined average speed over 10 & 25 miles on any Q course. The riders best times at the two distances, from the previous 3 seasons, shall be set against the standard times of 20:00 (10 miles) & 50:00 (25 miles) to determine the rider's season handicap. The rider with the fastest combined average speed on NET time over the 2 distances shall be deemed the winner.


The Cyclewise Cup (Veterans Only)


Awarded to the rider making the best time on the VTTA age standards over any 25,50 and 100 mile TT's. The riders fastest times over each distance are used to calculate this.


The Brian Pucknell Memorial Trophy (Veterans Only)


Awarded to the rider with the best aggregate time in accordance with the VTTA age standards. This is calculated by using the fastest 5 rides in our club evening 10's and comparing it to the ‘standard time’ for your age. The rider with the best aggregate time is deemed the winner.


The Harry Holt Cup


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time in ANY 25 mile event during the season.


The Swan Shield


This is awarded to the rider with the fastest time in ANY 100 mile event during the season.


The ’12 Hour’ Trophy


This is awarded to the rider with the greatest distance in ANY 12 hour event during the season.
